| Job Creation and Economic OutputBuilding the SeaBridge network is a significant large-scale project that will create equally significant benefits for the many people and firms who make it happen. SeaBridge will construct and operate a fleet of ships as well as facilities to handle passengers, trucks, and cars. The contribution to the nation’s economic output directly from these activities has the potential to exceed $2.8 billion. This figure does not include the “multiplier effect” which occurs when that direct output ripples through the economy over the several year project period and beyond. The 12 ship fleet will be built in the U.S. Gulf Coast region, a region that was hard-hit by hurricanes Katrina and Rita in late summer 2005. This region in particular will benefit greatly, not the least of which is through the creation of a considerable number of new jobs. In addition, the ongoing operations at each port facility will create permanent jobs and steady economic output. Local and state governments will be the beneficiaries of tax and fee revenue produced by the business activities.
